Have you used any Windows firewall "overlays"? Or without any "addons"? Like I said I've been running 4 programs I got for free for 6 years without problem.Ĭheckout this site, they have tons of software to shareĭejavous: As an NS (network specialist) I've been using windows firewall and a free version of Avast cuddled inbetween Superantispyware and bit defender for about 6 years and the only time I got a virus is when I forced it myself. My recomendation: even if you have an ISP modem, run a router behind it, with it's own firewall, modify the policies in that firewall to only accept requested traffic replys, IE anything trying to get to your computer that you didn't initiate is rejected, then downoad an ANTIVIRUS of your choice that you can get for free, then wrap that protection with 1 or 2 anti malware programs that run minimaly in the background this frees your system to do things like run games at a consistant 60fps. Stay away from the well know suites like Mcaffee or Norton as they run in the background consuming precious resources slowing EVERYTHING down, processor speed, internet connectivity, and memory usage. Most of the paid suites only offer a 1-3 year licence, that's how they get repeat customers to keep renewing their product, thus they revenue. You do realize that most of the "security software" available utilizes the builtin windows firewall as it's perfectly viable, the programs just add rules and close tons of ports that the common casual user never thinks about.Īs an NS (network specialist) I've been using windows firewall and a free version of Avast cuddled inbetween Superantispyware and bit defender for about 6 years and the only time I got a virus is when I forced it myself.
